In the world of foreign study, there are all kinds of subjects which can be studied overseas. Nursing study abroad is popular because there are always plenty of nursing students who would love the opportunity to visit a foreign country while receiving college credit and an expanded education. Studying the health care technology and practices from another country can be very educational for those pursuing a nursing degree. One renowned university that has international study programs for nursing students is the University of Virginia. One is a summer study program in Denmark. Another is a semester program in New Zealand. There is also a South Africa program for those in the Distinguished Majors Program. For some students there are work study programs where you practice nursing under a supervisor with real patients. This not only lets you learn clinical, hands-on skills in a real world environment, it teaches you to bridge cultural and communication gaps. You would be surprised how different some British speech sounds from American. Of course, in America you can hear different accents and colloquial speech simply by going from North to South or vice versa. It is the same way in England.
The point is, nursing study abroad has many advantages. Any hospital or doctor's office you were to apply with would see that you have been overseas to study nursing and this would count as a plus on your application or resume. It is not mandatory for nursing students to participate in foreign study. Therefore, the ones that do demonstrate a willingness to go above and beyond the minimum and stretch themselves academically.
